Who we work with in Wyoming

Growing businesses across Wyoming.

Mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction employ about 15,500 people in Wyoming, 15 times the industry’s share of jobs nationally, and coal mining alone about 3,400 (BLS Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, 2025 annual averages). Leisure and hospitality employs about 38,000, 1.3 times its national share, and across the state private employers averaged about 214,000 jobs in 2025.

Wyoming rules

The Wyoming rules your finance function runs on.

Six rules set by Wyoming, each with the law that sets it and what it does to your month. Your team works to them every pay run and every close.

No state withholding to run.

The only state charge in a Wyoming payroll is the employer’s own unemployment contribution, so an employee who moves in from another state sees state withholding stop, and the books carry federal withholding alone.

Set by Wyoming Constitution, Article 15, Section 18 (full credit for sales, use, and property taxes against any income tax)

Wyoming levies no personal or corporate state income tax, and no franchise or inventory tax, so Wyoming pay runs carry federal income tax withholding only. The state payroll cost that remains is the employer’s unemployment insurance contribution, which Wyoming law says is payable by employers and may not be deducted from employee wages.

Wyoming Constitution, Article 15, Section 18 (full credit for sales, use, and property taxes against any income tax); no personal or corporate income tax in 2026.

The rate depends on your industry.

A new employer’s rate is set from its industry’s average, not a single state figure, so the rate notice is checked when it arrives and each quarter’s contribution is accrued at that rate until wages pass the base.

Set by Wyoming Statutes title 27, chapter 3, article 5 (W.S. 27-3-503)

Employers pay unemployment insurance contributions on the first $33,800 of each employee’s wages in 2026, up from $32,400 in 2025, and on $34,900 in 2027. New employers pay the average rate of their major industry for the preceding year, never less than 1%, plus four adjustment factors; an employer that has not completed registration is assigned the top base rate of 8.5%. Quarterly reports are due April 30, July 31, October 31, and January 31.

Wyoming Statutes title 27, chapter 3, article 5 (W.S. 27-3-503); 2026 taxable wage base of $33,800; $34,900 for 2027.

The federal rate is the working floor.

An employer covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act pays at least $7.25, so the payroll file uses that rate and, for anyone on the $2.13 cash wage, checks wages plus tips against it every pay period.

Set by W.S. 27-4-202; federal Fair Labor Standards Act

Wyoming law sets a minimum wage of $5.15 an hour, but employers covered by the federal Fair Labor Standards Act must pay the federal $7.25. Tipped employees, who regularly receive more than $30 a month in tips, may be paid a cash wage of $2.13 when wages and tips together reach the minimum for the pay period. Under state law, employees under 20 may be paid $4.25 for their first 90 consecutive days.

W.S. 27-4-202; federal Fair Labor Standards Act; state tipped cash wage of $2.13 from April 1, 2001; federal table revised July 1, 2026.

Purchases carry the tax instead.

A professional firm that charges no sales tax still pays it on the equipment and supplies it buys, and owes use tax on untaxed out-of-state purchases, so the books track the tax on every purchase.

Set by W.S. 39-15-103

Wyoming has no statute taxing professional services such as engineering, technical writing, or legal work, and blueprints, designs, and specifications produced in that work are not taxable. Repair, alteration, or improvement of tangible personal property and photography are taxable. The state rate is 4% and counties add up to 3%, for 4% to 7%, and 9% in the Teton Village and Grand Targhee resort districts. Returns are due by the last day of the month after each period.

W.S. 39-15-103; combined rates in the rate chart effective October 1, 2026.

The industry sets the calendar.

A semimonthly employer pays wages for the 1st to the 15th by the first of the next month, so timesheets and approvals close to that date, and a leaver is paid on the next scheduled payday.

Set by W.S. 27-4-101 and 27-4-104

Employers operating a railroad, mine, refinery, oil and gas work, factory, mill, or workshop pay semimonthly: wages for the first half of a month by the first of the next month, and for the second half by the 15th. Most other employers have no set schedule, and none may require direct deposit. Every payment comes with an itemized statement of deductions, and an employee who quits or is discharged is paid by the next regularly scheduled payday.

W.S. 27-4-101 and 27-4-104.

The W-4 can be the report.

The details the state needs are already on the federal Form W-4, so the report is sent the day someone is added to the payroll file, well inside the 20 days.

Set by W.S. 27-1-115

Employers report each new employee to the Department of Workforce Services within 20 days of hiring, or in two monthly electronic transmissions 12 to 16 days apart. The report gives the employee’s name, address, and Social Security number, the date work for pay began, and the employer’s name, address, and federal identification number, and may be made on the federal Form W-4. The requirement covers employees aged 18 or older.

W.S. 27-1-115.

Local rules

Where the rules change across Wyoming.

Your team applies the local rules as well as the Wyoming ones. These are the places where a local tax, a wage rate, or a leave law differs from the rest of the state.

Teton County resort districts

Two resort districts in Teton County add a tax of their own, so taxable sales there carry the highest rate in Wyoming.

  • Teton County already has the highest county rate in the state, a 7% combined sales and use tax, against 5% or 6% in most counties and 4% in Park and Sublette counties.
  • The Teton Village and Grand Targhee resort districts add 2% on all taxable sales and services within them, for a combined rate of 9%.
  • Lodging there also carries the 5% statewide lodging assessment, for 14% in all, and because the rate follows where the customer takes possession, each sale is coded to its district.

How it works from anywhere

Can a team outside Wyoming run a Wyoming business?

Yes. Visory’s US leadership team is in New York, and its teams work with businesses across the United States remotely, inside your own accounting file, so nothing about the work depends on where your office is.

Your own file

Your books stay in your own QuickBooks or Xero file. Your team works inside it, so you see the same numbers they do, whenever you look.

A team you know by name

A dedicated team runs the work, led by a Business Performance Partner. You meet them by video call, and you always know who to ask.

Wyoming rules, built in

Visory runs the finance function for growing businesses across the United States, with its US leadership team in New York. Your books stay in your own QuickBooks or Xero file, and your team works inside it with you. Every pay run and every close is checked against the rules on this page.

Business hours, and the platform after them

Your team works 9am to 5pm Eastern Time on business days, all year round, and the Visory platform is open to you around the clock for documents, approvals, and your numbers.

Visory Insights

What your numbers should show in Wyoming.

Clean books are the start. Every month, Insights turns them into a plain-English report, and a named Business Performance Partner walks your leadership team through what they mean for the year ahead.

Every point of rate costs $338 an employee

On the 2026 wage base of $33,800, each percentage point of contribution rate costs up to $338 per employee, rising to $349 in 2027. Insights applies your notified rate to the hiring plan, so the cash flow forecast carries the real cost quarter by quarter.

The same repair job, two tax bills

Taxable repair work worth $10,000 carries $400 of sales tax in Park or Sublette County and $900 in Teton Village. That tax is held for the state until the return is due, so Insights keeps it apart from operating cash, and the cash you plan from is your own.

Semimonthly pay leaves about two weeks

Where semimonthly pay applies, wages for the 16th to the end of the month are due by the 15th of the next month, and the 1st to the 15th by the 1st. That is two fixed paydays a month, and Insights places both in the cash calendar.

Common questions

Questions Wyoming businesses ask.

Straight answers about bookkeeping and payroll for a Wyoming business, from a team that works remotely.

Does Visory have an office in Wyoming?

Visory’s US leadership team is in New York, and its teams work with growing businesses across the United States remotely, so we support businesses in Wyoming as we do everywhere else. A Wyoming business gets a dedicated team you know by name, who keep the books and run payroll inside your own QuickBooks or Xero file and meet you by video call. Your records stay in your file, which you can open at any time.

What hours does my Visory team work?

Your team works 9am to 5pm Eastern Time on business days, all year round. Outside those hours, the Visory platform is your 24/7 access point, so your financial information is there whenever you need it.

Can a bookkeeper outside my office look after a Wyoming business?

Yes. What matters is that the team knows Wyoming’s rules and works inside your own accounting file. Visory connects to your bank feeds and software, codes and reconciles transactions through the month with Delphi AI working under an expert team, and meets you by video call. Nothing about the work depends on where your office is.

How much does a bookkeeper cost in Wyoming?

Visory charges one flat monthly fee for the scope we agree, with no hourly billing and no timesheets. The fee reflects the services you take, from bookkeeping and payroll to accounts payable, accounts receivable, and Insights, and the volume of work in your business. After a discovery call, you get a clear proposal, so you know the monthly cost before you start.

See how pricing works

Do you work in QuickBooks and Xero?

Yes. Visory works inside the systems you already use: QuickBooks and Xero for the ledger, Gusto and Rippling for pay runs, and Bill, Ramp, and Stripe for payments, along with your bank feeds. Your books stay in your own accounting file, which you own and can open at any time. Any change to your setup is agreed with you first.

Do Wyoming employers withhold state income tax?

No. Wyoming has no personal or corporate state income tax, so pay runs carry federal withholding only. The state payroll cost is the employer’s unemployment contribution, paid on the first $33,800 of each employee’s wages in 2026 and never deducted from pay. This is general information; the Department of Workforce Services sets the unemployment insurance rules.

Do Wyoming businesses charge sales tax on services?

Most professional services are not taxed: Wyoming has no statute imposing sales tax on engineering, technical writing, or legal work. Repair or alteration of tangible personal property and photography are taxable, at 4% to 7% depending on the county, and 9% in two Teton County resort districts. This is general information; the Wyoming Department of Revenue sets the rules.

What is the minimum wage in Wyoming?

Wyoming law sets $5.15 an hour, but employers covered by the federal Fair Labor Standards Act pay the federal $7.25 instead. Tipped employees may be paid a $2.13 cash wage when tips make up the minimum, and state law allows $4.25 for employees under 20 in their first 90 days. This is general information; the Department of Workforce Services and the US Department of Labor set the rules.

Can you look after staff in more than one state?

Yes. Each state sets its own income tax withholding, unemployment insurance, minimum wage, and leave rules, and Wyoming itself withholds no income tax from anyone’s wages, so any state withholding on a Wyoming payroll comes from another state’s rules. Visory keeps one set of books and runs payroll with each state’s rules applied to the staff who work there, so every state’s cost shows in one monthly report.

Do you offer a fractional CFO in Wyoming?

A fractional CFO advises on numbers someone else produces. Visory runs the books, payroll, and payments, then delivers the insight from the same team: Visory Insights is a plain-English monthly report and a session with a named Business Performance Partner. There is no handover between the doing and the advising, and it comes on one flat monthly fee.
