Georgia rules
The Georgia rules your finance function runs on.
Four rules set by Georgia, each with the law that sets it and what it does to your month. Your team works to them every pay run and every close.
The rate cut arrived mid-year.
Withholding ran at 5.19% until May 11, 2026, so both the payroll settings and the owner’s own tax estimate need checking against 4.99%, and the quarterly Form G-7 has to agree with every deposit made.
Employers withhold Georgia income tax from residents’ wages, wherever they work, and from taxable nonresidents’ wages for work in Georgia. House Bill 463 cut the flat rate from 5.19% to 4.99% for 2026, and employers may withhold at 4.99% from May 11, 2026; bonuses are withheld at the rate in force when paid. Employers withholding over $200 a month remit by the 15th of the next month, or semi-weekly above $50,000 in the lookback period. Form G-7 is filed quarterly.
Official Code of Georgia, Title 48, Chapter 7; House Bill 463 (2026); flat rate for taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2026; withholding at 4.99% from May 11, 2026.Source Georgia Department of Revenue: 2026 Employer’s Tax Guide (updated September 2026)
The cost lands early in the year.
Tax stops once an employee’s wages pass $9,500, so the year’s unemployment cost is concentrated in its first months, and a budget that spreads it evenly understates the first quarter.
Employers pay the entire cost of unemployment insurance. Tax is due on the first $9,500 of each employee’s wages a year, the wage base since January 1, 2013, and new or newly covered employers are assigned a total tax rate of 2.70% until they qualify for an experience rating. Tax and wage reports and payment are due April 30, July 31, October 31, and January 31, and quarterly charges of $5.00 or less may be deferred to January 31.

The federal floor is the working floor.
Georgia’s $5.15 rate matters only for work outside the Fair Labor Standards Act, so pay rates are checked against $7.25, and any tip credit taken is the federal one, up to $5.12.
Georgia’s own minimum wage is $5.15 an hour and applies to employers of 6 or more employees, but it excludes employment covered by the federal Fair Labor Standards Act whenever the federal rate is higher, so employers subject to that Act pay the federal $7.25. Georgia’s law does not apply to tipped employees; under federal law their cash wage is at least $2.13 an hour, with a tip credit of up to $5.12.

Services are mostly outside it, goods are not.
A professional firm’s fees are usually exempt, but any taxable goods it sells carry the local rate where the buyer receives them, so the books separate taxable sales from fees before each return.
Georgia taxes retail sales of tangible personal property and certain services. Most services are exempt, but accommodations, in-state transportation of individuals, admissions, and charges for games and amusement activities are taxable, and a provider of nontaxable services owes tax on goods it sells. The state rate is 4%; with local taxes, most combined rates run from 6% to 9%, and 8.9% in Atlanta. Monthly, quarterly, and annual returns are due on the 20th of the month after the period.

What your numbers should show in Georgia.
Clean books are the start. Every month, Insights turns them into a plain-English report, and a named Business Performance Partner walks your leadership team through what they mean for the year ahead.
Unemployment tax, front-loaded
At the 2.70% new-employer rate, each employee costs $256.50 in unemployment tax a year, and for anyone paid more than $38,000 a year, all of it falls in the first quarter. Insights puts that into the cash flow forecast, so January to March is planned, not a surprise.
The rate cut, in the owner’s numbers
On $150,000 of Georgia taxable income, the 4.99% rate is $7,485 against $7,785 at 5.19%, or $300 less for 2026. Insights carries the new rate into the owner’s estimated tax, so payments match the year’s actual liability.
Sales tax depends on the address
On $50,000 of taxable sales, the 8.9% Atlanta rate collects $4,450, against $3,000 at 6% in Cobb or Gwinnett, a $1,450 gap. Insights keeps tax collected apart from operating cash until the return is due on the 20th, so the cash you plan from is the business’s own.

Questions Georgia businesses ask.
Straight answers about bookkeeping for a Georgia business, from a team that works remotely.
Does Visory have an office in Georgia?
Visory’s US leadership team is in New York, and its teams work with growing businesses across the United States remotely, so we support businesses in Georgia as we do everywhere else. A Georgia business gets a dedicated team you know by name, who work inside your own QuickBooks or Xero file and meet you by video call. Your records stay in your file, which you can open at any time.
What hours does my Visory team work?
Your team works 9am to 5pm Eastern Time on business days, all year round. Outside those hours, the Visory platform is your 24/7 access point, so your financial information is there whenever you need it.
Can a bookkeeper outside my office look after a Georgia business?
Yes. What matters is that the team knows Georgia’s rules and works inside your own accounting file. Visory connects to your bank feeds and software, codes and reconciles transactions through the month with Delphi AI working under an expert team, and meets you by video call. Nothing about the work depends on where your office is.
How much does a bookkeeper cost in Georgia?
Visory charges one flat monthly fee for the scope we agree, with no hourly billing and no timesheets. The fee reflects the services you take, from bookkeeping and payroll to accounts payable, accounts receivable, and Insights, and the volume of work in your business. After a discovery call, you get a clear proposal, so you know the monthly cost before you start.
See how pricing works Do you work in QuickBooks and Xero?
Yes. Visory works inside the systems you already use: QuickBooks and Xero for the ledger, Gusto and Rippling for pay runs, and Bill, Ramp, and Stripe for payments, along with your bank feeds. Your books stay in your own accounting file, which you own and can open at any time. Any change to your setup is agreed with you first.
Do Georgia businesses charge sales tax on services?
Mostly not. Most services are exempt in Georgia, but accommodations, in-state transportation of individuals, admissions, and charges for games and amusement activities are taxable, and a service business that sells goods collects tax on them. The state rate is 4%, and most combined rates run from 6% to 9%. This is general information; the Georgia Department of Revenue sets the rules.
What is the Georgia income tax rate for 2026?
Georgia has a flat income tax rate of 4.99% for 2026, down from 5.19%, under House Bill 463. Employers had to keep withholding at 5.19% until the change took effect and could withhold at 4.99% from May 11, 2026. The standard deduction rose to $15,000 for single filers. This is general information; the Georgia Department of Revenue sets the rules.
What is the sales tax rate in Atlanta?
Most of the City of Atlanta charges a combined 8.9%, on both the Fulton and DeKalb sides, on the rate chart effective October 1, 2026. Rates change from one address to the next: 7.75% in Fulton County outside Atlanta, Hapeville, College Park, and East Point, 8% in DeKalb County outside Atlanta, and 6% in Cobb and Gwinnett counties. The local rate generally follows the county where the buyer receives the goods, so the books record taxable sales by location. This is general information; the Georgia Department of Revenue sets the rules.
Can you look after staff in more than one state?
Yes. Each state sets its own income tax withholding, unemployment insurance, minimum wage, and leave rules, and Georgia withholds from nonresidents who attribute more than 5% of their wages, or more than $5,000, to work in Georgia. Visory keeps one set of books and runs payroll with each state’s rules applied, so every state’s cost shows in one monthly report.
Do you offer a fractional CFO in Georgia?
A fractional CFO advises on numbers someone else produces. Visory runs the books, payroll, and payments, then delivers the insight from the same team: Visory Insights is a plain-English monthly report and a session with a named Business Performance Partner. There is no handover between the doing and the advising, and it comes on one flat monthly fee.
